Xbox Errors and Solutions - 360 Error Repair Guide

Xbox Error Codes Fix

Xbox errors and solutions depend on each other. The console furnishes you with error codes that try and explain what is wrong, and once you are armed with that information, you are in a great position to obtain a solution to whatever problem is occurring.

The Xbox 360 error codes come in a number of flavors. They are in the format of the capital letter 'E' followed by a number. It is the number that gives you a clue as to what the problem actually is. Some of these error messages are quite specific, but others are a little more general in nature. However, many have their root in the same kinds of problems, so your approach should be the same to try and obtain an error fix.

For example, the E67, E68 or E69 error codes are telling you that there is a problem with the hard drive on your Xbox. The cause of the problem could be a number of things. If you take the age of the console into account, then that could steer you in a particular direction. If your console is relatively new, then the fault is less likely to be a failure of the hard drive itself, but something else impacting on the hard drive. Remember that the three red lights are there to help protect your system, so a shut down is a safe option.

Another batch of error codes refer to problems with the DVD player on your Xbox. if you receive either an E64, E65 or a E66 error code, then the DVD player is chief suspect. You should be aware that the Xbox 360 might have a different DVD player; in other words, the same one is not fitted as standard on all Xboxes, so any solution you find to your problem will need to bear this in mind.

One error code that is a little more vague is the E73 error code. This is telling you that you there is a general hardware fault, which makes it a little trickier to diagnose. There could be a network problem which means that you could try removing any cables and reconnecting them. The E74 error is very common but is again a general fault. It is worthwhile checking cables for this as well.

Xbox 360 Error Solutions

Xbox errors and solutions should all be approached in the same way. The first thing that you should try and do is to reboot your Xbox 360. When your system is rebooted, you will see some red lights, and the error messages as explained above. A reboot will sometimes cure the problem on its own. If it doesn't then you are into phase 2 of the diagnostics stage.

There is one problem that is sadly very common with the Xbox and that is the issue of overheating. If your console is near a direct source of heat, which includes windows, then you should consider moving it to somewhere cooler. This location should also be well ventilated, so that the temperature of the console can be maintained more easily. Let the Xbox cool down naturally, and when it is cool, try restarting it.

Should your Xbox 360 have a problem that is not covered here, then don't panic. The cost of a trip to a Microsoft engineer is not the only solution you have. If your Xbox is under warranty, then the engineer should be your first port of call. However, if the warranty has expired, then your can try and resolve matters yourself.
